A gravel drive that ruts, puddles, or washes out every spring was usually built without a proper base or drainage. Diekemper Excavating builds gravel driveways and private lanes that hold up, and hauls rock to keep them that way. We are based in Carlyle and have been building drives and lanes since 1977.

We strip the topsoil, shape and compact the base, set the crown so water runs off, and lay rock in layers. Where water crosses the drive, we install a culvert.
Long lanes to homes, fields, grain bins and barns need to carry heavy trucks and equipment. We build them wide enough and strong enough for the traffic they’ll see, with ditches and culverts to keep water off the road.
We haul rock for new drives, resurfacing, pads, parking areas and washout repair, and spread it where you need it.
Ruts, potholes and soft spots usually mean the base has failed or water is getting under it. We regrade, rebuild the base where it’s needed and resurface with fresh rock.

It depends on the soil and the traffic. A drive for cars needs less base than a lane for grain trucks. We’ll size it for how you use it.
Often, yes. Many county and township road districts require a culvert where a drive meets their ditch. Check with your road commissioner; we install the pipe.
