A good pond waters livestock, holds runoff, and gives you a place to fish. A bad one leaks, washes out its spillway, or loses its banks a little more every year. Diekemper Excavating builds new farm ponds and repairs the ones you already have, from the dam to the shoreline. We are based in Carlyle and have been building ponds since 1977.

We help you pick a site, then dig the basin, build a compacted earthen dam, and install the spillway and overflow. A pond built with a proper core and compaction holds water for decades. We shape the banks for safe access and leave the site graded and ready to seed. For field runoff and erosion control, explore our farm drainage and conservation services.
Leaks, slumping banks, animal burrows and washed-out spillways weaken a dam over time. We rebuild and recompact damaged sections, repair or replace overflow pipes, and rebuild spillways so high water leaves the pond without cutting the dam.
Silt fills a pond a little every year. We dig out sediment to restore depth and holding capacity, and haul or spread the spoil where you want it.
Waves and runoff eat away at pond and lake banks. Riprap is large rock placed along the shoreline over fabric to absorb wave energy and stop erosion. We grade the bank, set the fabric, and place the rock so it locks together.
Where a bank needs a vertical edge, such as a dock area or a steep lot, a seawall holds the shoreline in place. We excavate, set the wall and backfill behind it.
Building on or near Carlyle Lake, or a private lake? We clear brush and trees, remove stumps, and grade the lot for drainage before you build.
Shoreline work on public lakes, including Carlyle Lake, may require a permit before work starts. We will help you find out what is required for your property.

It depends on what it’s for: livestock water, fishing, irrigation or runoff control. We’ll walk your site and talk through size and depth before digging.
Most leaks come from the dam or the overflow pipe. Many can be repaired by rebuilding and recompacting the problem area or replacing the pipe.
Riprap is usually less expensive and works well on sloped banks. A seawall makes sense where you need a vertical edge. We’ll recommend what fits your shoreline.
